daniel johnston

i have been extremely depressed lately. this usually happens around this time of year, but normally closer to easter. here i am posting an anti-playlist, of music that i have decided it would be in my best best interest to stop listening to (temporarily, of course.)

magnetic fields - 69 love songs
gustav mahler - symphony no. 6 "tragique"
morrissey - viva hate
type o negative - october rust and bloody kisses
tori amos - anything, really.
also no more cure, radiohead, john lennon or j.s. bach.

i have been listening to the clash's "combat rock" and the doors' "morrison hotel" a lot, though.

oh yeah, i won't listen to daniel johnston for awhile either. daniel johnston was a manic depressive artist/musician who recorded a whole lot of stuff on a tape recorder. he has apparently influenced a lot of more successful bands, like nirvana, sonic youth and ween, but he reminds me of violent femmes, personally. like me, he had several nervous breakdowns, and like me his unhealthy infatuations with women who had no interest in him stimulated a lot of his creativity. unlike me, he had the guts to come out of his hole and perform music to live audiences, occasionally.

somebody made a movie about him, fat chance it will play around here.
